Happy holidays to our GHT families! We hope you enjoy the holiday season in peace and health. Reminder to read up on cold and flu prevention, and travel safety as we spend time with family and friends.
Cold & Flu Prevention
As colds and flus circulate this time of year, simple prevention steps go a long way:
- Wash your hands often. Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Remind kids to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Play outside whenever possible and maintain good inside airflow during holiday parties.
- Stay home when sick to prevent the spread ofsup illness.
- Boost your immunity. (https://ghtkids.com/holistic-care/boosting-immunity/)
- Get vaccinated! Make your vaccine-only appointment for your annual flu shot by calling the office at (562) 473-4441 or through the portal.
Travel Health & Safety Tips
Holiday travel can bring excitement, new experiences, and exposure to illnesses. A few reminders:
- Stay hydrated, especially during air travel.
- Encourage movement on long trips to reduce restlessness.
- Research health advisories, and mask up, if necessary.
- Get any travel vaccines you might require.
- Be prepared and keep copies of vital medical information and insurance cards in case you need to get medical help far from home.
Supporting Kids (And Adults!) During Holiday Overstimulation
Festive events can be overwhelming for everyone involved. Help your kids stay regulated by:
- Building quiet breaks into busy days.
- Offering noise-reducing headphones for sensitive children.
- Maintaining sleep and meal routines when possible.
- Letting kids choose when they need space.
- Encouraging personal autonomy. Some kids don’t want to hug every relative they only see once a year, and that’s okay!
Important Dates
National Influenza Vaccination Week (Dec 1-5)
It’s not too late to get protected. Annual flu vaccination helps reduce illness, missed school days, and complications. Make your vaccine-only appointment by calling the office at (562) 473-4441 or logging into your portal.
National Handwashing Awareness Week (Dec 1–7)
Handwashing remains one of the most effective ways to prevent infections. A quick refresher:
- Use warm water and soap.
- Scrub all surfaces, including the palms, backs of the hands, between the fingers, and under the nails.
- Wash for 20 seconds (a slow ABC or Happy Birthday song works!).
- Dry thoroughly with a clean towel.
World AIDS Day (Dec 1)
World AIDS Day raises awareness, reduces stigma, and supports those living with HIV.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec 3)
This UN observance day honors the rights, dignity, and contributions of children and adults with disabilities. This year’s theme is “fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”
