We live in a world full of good food. Here in California, we have access to the cream of the crop. We have farmers’ markets available weekly, if not daily. Organic food may be slightly more expensive than other kinds of foods. However, many of us find that we are willing to pay a little bit more money for the food that we can trust.
According to the USDA, organic food is defined as food free of pesticides and food additives and is not genetically modified. Additionally, organic farmers preserve natural resources and biodiversity. They support animal health and welfare, only use approved materials, and receive annual onsite inspections. Additionally, organic farmers separate organic food from non-organic food to avoid contamination.
There is, as always, some controversy regarding organic foods. It is important that you do your research and do your best to make good choices for yourself and your family. We at GHT are willing and able to give you good recommendations for foods and products. However, we don’t always have all of the answers. We support each family’s unique perspective and hope that you make the best choice you can make for your family’s health.
USDA Organic Seal
The USDA organic seal may not be used for any food that is less than 95% certified organic ingredients. The seal may not be used for any genetically modified foods or any food that does not comply with the USDA National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances.
Organic Babies
Familiarly, babies get some of the most organic foods available straight from the source. Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your baby. We at GHT consider breastfeeding to be absolutely imperative to infant health and wellness. However, some moms aren’t so lucky. Breastfeeding doesn’t work out for all women, so we need to find the next best thing. Consequently, an organic formula can be used for baby’s diet or for supplementing baby’s diet.
Organic Formula
GHT found that the best source for organic formula comparison is by Food Babe Charlotte Vallaeys over on her website. The Food Babe created a wonderful blog outlining all of the best and worst organic formulae. An organic formula shouldn’t contain processed refined sugar, palm oil, DHA & ARA, carrageenan, synthetic preservatives or synthetic nutrients.
In conclusion, Baby’s Only Organic by Nature’s One was found to be the best option for your infant’s health. Other formulas considered were Bright Beginnings, Earth’s Best, Parent’s Choice, Similac Organic, Vermont Organics, and Whole Foods 365.
